With Bachelor’s Degrees in Commerce and Political Science (honours), and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA), Kris Hans is a force to be reckoned with. Born in Coleman, Alberta, he has lived and worked in Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, and India, bringing experience in account management, marketing, and business and operations.

Complimenting his versatile education, Kris has gained a wide range of experience in banking, technology, and the non-profit sector. From 2000 to 2003, he worked as Director of Business & Operations at the Art Gallery of Calgary (AGC), where he was instrumental in consolidating its position as the largest non-collecting contemporary art institution in Canada; through diversification of the AGC’s revenue, negotiation of strategic partnerships, and the introduction of innovative programming that drew increased attendance from the coveted 18-35 demographic. Kris has also worked as the Senior Business Adviser for Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC), and later moved on to develop his own consulting practice, INFORMED DECISION (ID), in 2003. Kris also taught entrepreneurship and marketing from 2005-2008 at Mount Royal University’s Bissett School of Business, and currently teaches "Business Plan Development" at University of Calgary, a course he designed and developed from scratch. Kris also co-authored "Business Planning: A Module Based Approach" as part of curriculum development for this course and is fluent in Hindi and Punjabi.

Having played on both sides of the agency/client face, Kris brings a wealth of knowledge and skills to Market Grade, and knows his way around high level strategy down to the details of execution.

Paul Stady is one of a kind. He has studied at Queen’s University, Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, and the University of Calgary - obtaining degrees in philosophy, fine art, and architecture. Born in Malta with roots that span both Europe and North America, Paul is a unique blend of builder/architect/artist, with the innate ability to blend all three combinations effortlessly.

Paul briefly partnered with Andrew King to work on internationally recognized private commissions in architecture. He has also worked with a number of local design studios and companies, including Combine Design & Communications, Matter Industrial Design, Station Studios, Canadian Rocky Mountain Resorts, and Vault. His work has been nominated for both Royal Institute of British Architects and Canadian Architect Awards, and has been featured in Elevation West, Onsite Review, Avenue Magazine, Coupe Magazine, Canadian Architect Magazine, and the Calgary Herald. Owner of the recently founded Isetta (a design/build and architectural company) Paul is also a practicing artist.

At Market Grade, Paul’s synergistic approach to problem solving and design helps our clients to transform their own ideas into functional, unique, and personal architecture.

  Léora Rabatach BSc HONS

Our resident wordsmith, Léora Rabatach loves hearing a good story; especially when she gets to write about them.

Léora has travelled, worked, and volunteered throughout Europe, South East Asia, Japan, India, Africa, Central America, and the West Indies. A Calgary local (relatively speaking), she graduated from the University of Calgary in 1999, with degrees in Physical Anthropology and Biology. Instead of sticking to her original plan to study monkeys in the jungles of South America, she landed a job in communications at the Faculty of Medicine in Calgary and never looked back. In 2004, Léora moved to Benin, West Africa, where she worked for an organization dedicated to protecting the rights of women and children - partnering with other NGOs to develop training opportunities for marginalized groups. Léora now works for Alberta Health Services, and has also consulted for the Bone and Joint Institute of Alberta, the Alberta Wilderness Association, the Calgary Stroke Program, and the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation. She specializes in strategic communications planning, media relations, web development, knowledge management, copywriting, and editing.

When not at work, Léora loves spending time with her son and doing any activity that takes her outside. She is also expanding her (very limited) mechanical expertise working on her newly acquired, old-school motorcycle. (She’s really just hoping she can put it back together again.) She also never passes up the opportunity to write her own bio.

A transplant from Saskatchewan, we have Dean’s rural roots to thank for his integrity and strong work ethic. After graduating from Medicine Hat College (Honours Degree in Visual Communications), Dean spent four years apprenticing with Bradbury Design, an award winning studio located in Regina, Saskatchewan. From there he moved to Calgary and founded 17oz. Design in 2000, which later grew into Combine Design & Communications (2001).

Now the owner of Station Studios, Dean brings over 13 years of branding, design / print production, and project management experience to the Market Grade team. He has developed creative solutions for companies that include the Faculties of Medicine, Humanities, and Veterinary Medicine (University of Calgary), Alberta College of Art and Design (ACAD), Calgary Arts Development Association, Henry, the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, and Reach! (the largest fundraising initiative in Canada), just to name a few.

As the designer for Market Grade, Dean specializes in typography and illustration to create the right set of functional branding tools for each project we embark on – allowing our clients to establish a stronger voice for their individual needs and those of their company.

  PMG IMAGE Paul McGrath

From his experience in construction, to visual arts and photojournalism, there is a lot to thank for Paul McGrath’s amazing attitude and skill set. His intrinsic ability to make people feel comfortable in any situation – especially in front of the camera - allows him to excel at finding the unique in the routine.

Born and raised in Calgary, Paul was discovered in a local bar and worked as a model for over ten years, living and working in over 20 countries across Europe, Asia, Africa, India, and North America before becoming a full-time photographer for Mode Models in 1998. Since then, Paul’s time behind the lens has taken him on a number of international locations, with a long list of clients including Birks, Blue Valley Ranch, Mode Models, Shoppers Drug Mart, Connacher Oil & Gas Ltd, Troy Built Homes, and Yellow Rain Coat, to name a few. His work has also appeared in a number of local, national, and international magazines, newspapers, and websites.

A conduit for inspirational energy, Paul’s professional accomplishments and commitment to volunteerism brings a vast array of artistic, photojournalistic, and project management experience to the Market Grade team.
